About PAHS

We provide shelter for both dogs and cats. With our new shelter we are able to house many more homeless pets. We are also taking in many dogs from seized puppy mills from the State of Kansas.  Private donations adoptions and fees fund the shelter. The shelter has one full time employee and numerous volunteers of all ages. The shelter is governed by a local board of directors. Our new shelter was opened in October 2008. Minor work still needs to be done on the building. We are also working on getting funding for new kennel panels. We are using our old kennel panels which are in need of replacement. We have been working with rescues that will take the dogs we can’t get adopted instead of taking the dogs life. We feel every pet deserves a chance.

Arrangements with the City of Pratt
Through an inter-local agreement, the city provides an Animal Control officer. The Animal Control Officer or City Officer brings the pet out to the shelter where it is housed until claimed. If the pet is not claimed after 3 business days it is put up for adoption. We also have contracts with Pratt County and surrounding communities.

Our Mission!
The primary mission of this shelter is to provide safe care for unwanted animals and attempt to establish permanent homes for them. We try very carefully to match pets to future owners.
